Oops, really need to read up on dating records. Cataloguing takes over life at the moment, all new, without a clue. Thanks for input.

People often use the date of recording as the issue date - aarrgghh!! - so don't give too much weight to the dates you'll see. I suspect that the W series would have started sometime after 1912, and re-released many single sided records in double sided format. Perhaps the series issues were interrupted by WW1? The original single sided numbers are at bottom left on the labels. Compare this with the comments on your Chaliapine record - which is at least 13 years after recording.

Thanks for information, thanks for clean up. On the site people have listed W series records, from 1911, but no images to compare, with record I have. D'Assay died in 1910. Would record company keep recording for nine years before releasing record? does not seem correct

To prevent future problems I've linked the two label names. The changes of label name, and how we list them, is a problem with all Gramophone Company (later better known as HMV) countries. I've cleaned up your entry. The label with both 'Dog' and 'Angel' trademarks might suggest a date around 1911/12, but French issues seem to be different, and John Bennett suggests a start date for W of about 1919. D'Assy died in 1910.

Label : Disque pour gramophone? Or Gramophone? Having submitted information, I find W series on gramophone France. Not , Disque Pour Gramophone. Can mod change entry, didn't put in as mistake as I followed label information. As is often the case cannot find release date. Images show very similar labels 1919, cat numbering ,on site, leads to earlier date, Can anyone help . I do not speak or read French, any entry mistakes please alter
