I had The Cheers version on a (Aussie?) Capitol 78 for many years but only kept it because it was Leiber & Stoller and I collected everything remotely connected to them. To be quite honest I didn't think much of it. For me it didn't have any of the Leiber & Stoller magic already evident on their other early-to-mid-fifties efforts. The Cheers were a white group who didn't have much idea of what rock & roll or R&B was all about (probably why it was a pop hit at the time). Group member Bert Convy went solo and actually had a record under his own name released on London in the U.K.

Great!. It got to No.6 in the Billboard chart in the US on Sept. 24 1955 ( a week before James Dean died). also around this time 'The Wild One' with Marlon Brando was in the cinemas ( not the UK,). The teenage and twenty scene was changing for ever.
