 "Wildwood Flower", eventually sung solo by Sara Carter, was most probably the Carter Family's most impressing recording and definitely a good seller in the Southern USA. It was, however, only released in 1929 (nationwide or only in the South), what makes Joel Whitburn's listing in his Pop Memories 1890-1954 book of 1986 as a national #3 hit in 1928 even more ridiculous.

Here's the original version (not available though in Germany and possibly some other countries):



And here's a wonderful live recording for TV from the 1950s by The Carter Sisters, consisting of Maybelle Carter, playing guitar and singing lead, and her daughters June, Helen, and Anita.
