 All Embassy 78's were shellac.

So was this shellac, rather than vinyl - meaning that shellac records were still being made in 1961? The earlier comment suggests that Embassy's later 78s were shellac.

@liskeard78s, many older 78s would have remained in the catalogue, I believe, so that isn't surprising. Something to look out for. I wonder when the last ones were deleted...

Hey, folks. This probably IS the last Embassy. But look out for W/T tax codes on British 78s (late-60-early-61). I have one on Capitol (but it still has its original 1949 cat. no., evidently still being pressed on 78 at that time : Jo Stafford & Gordon MacRae's ''Whispering Hope'' - which was a small hit for Jim Reeves in March 1961! And one on H.M.V. made in Britain but only for export, by Vicky et l'Orchestre O.K. Jazz in the LON series.)

There was the last issued UK (Embassy) 78 rpm on the Embassy label.

"A" Side 'Stay' WB 432
"B" Side 'Are You Lonesome Tonight' WB 432

Agreed there can't be many 78s on Embassy in 1961. I have Sway by Bobby Stevens on WB430

Perhaps we can say this is the last commercial 78 in the UK.

There's even a later 78 by Dennis Farnon BM 430 issued in 1964 - not yet listed.

But do these library recordings count as they were not readily available to the buying public.

I didn't think there were any UK 78s issued in 1961!

I have six shellac 78 rpm from (1960) on Embassy-there are a few claimants to th 'LAST' UK 78 rpm-but it surely has to be this one!

Is this the last standard sized 78 produced in the UK ( more recent retro styles excepted ? )
