Juke Jules SUBS 15th Aug 2017		Book Brian McFadden - Rock Rarities For A Song: Budget LPs That Saved The Roots Of Rock 'n' Roll (2015)	Review A lovingly researched book which should appeal to all 45catters! Brian's enthusiasm for the hidden treasures on budget labels comes across clearly and he has unearthed the entrepreneurs and artists behind many of the best examples. Brian continues to research his subject and welcomes contributions from other knowledgeable collectors, which promises a symbiotic alliance with 45cat and its Worlds. Juke Jules SUBS 10th Nov 2015		Book Richard Goldstein - The Poetry Of Rock (1969)	Review Goldstein prints the lyrics, some with comments and others without, of 71 classic rock/pop records from 1952 - 1968. 'Classic' means that they would be known to all collectors of the period, even if they are not more widely known as 'oldies'. Each chapter is prefaced by a mise-en-scène for the genre. This covers the period of strutting on the street, followed by the turned-on Acid Heads era of love, flowers and peace while the world was 'hanging on in' through the thread of Mutually Assured Destruction and young Americans were fighting a vicious war in Vietnam Only one or two of the records were not released on 45s, for example Koeeoaddi There by the Incredible String Band, of which Goldstein writes: "To read this lyric is to feel in the presence of dozen dewy-eyed children who have been asked to construct their own cosmology" 3 people found this review helpful. ✔︎ Helpful Review?
