Book
A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda - Chant And Be Happy (1982)
Ha, ace, I bought a copy of this off a monk at Glastonbury years ago (late 90s). It was a later edition. I later sold it on Ebay, which I should be slightly ashamed of really, as that's not exactly in keeping with the teachings therein... (sorry)

It's actually quite an interesting book as I recall.

Book
Anne Dickson - A Woman In Your Own Right (2013)
Ha, I've clicked "I Own" but perhaps I should explain my other half and I have pooled our collection on here :-)

Zadie Smith - White Teeth (2001)
Still haven't read this! It's been on the shelf since forever. I really ought to get it read at some point.

Book
Wilton Carhoot - The Slab 3 (2007)
My copy, which was from the first run (I have a contributor's copy, as two of my poems are included in this volume), has a printing error in that the page numbers are missing! This was rectified for the next batch, as I recall.

Obviously editor "Wilton Carhoot" is a pseudonym (no, it's not me!).

Book
The Book Of Mormon - The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints (2007)
Yes, we really do own a copy of this... God knows why (arf). My better half picked it up somewhere intending to read it out of curiosity I think... and there it sits on the shelf!

We've a copy of the Koran as well... (coming soon, kids).

Considering I've already added The God Delusion, you can see how weird our bookshelf is!

Book
Luca Veste - Off The Record (2011)
I'm privileged to say one of the stories in this outstanding collection is mine. It's also one of my best efforts (so far), I think.

Aside from mine, there are some fantastic pieces in this collection, particularly Vic Watson's "Bye Bye Baby" (where you know how it's going to end, but you REALLY hope you're wrong...gut-wrenching stuff), Ray Banks (yes THE Ray Banks) with "God Only Knows", and my personal favourite, Heath Lowrance's "I Wanna Be Your Dog". Heath's piece is as good a short story as you will read anywhere, and to find it here in a small press charity anthology is just marvellous. It's not an easy read by any means (far from it), but it's evidence of a quite astonishing talent. There are so many highlights I could mention.

I would say this, but - just buy it. The book is still available on Amazon both in print and on Kindle.

Book
Jazzie Williams - Just A Girl (2007)
My other half got given a copy of this some years ago when it first came out (a promo copy or some such). I haven't read it in its entirety - that would be akin to spending the next week repeatedly smashing myself in the face with half a brick - but what I have read is absolutely hilarious. The problem being, it's not meant to me. This makes EL James look like Irvine Welsh.

If you see it, buy it. You'll hate the story (such as it is) but it'll be the best laugh you've had in years.

If you think that's a bit cruel... well, you obviously haven't read it. Unfortunately, neither has an editor...

Book
George Mackay Brown - Six Lives Of Fankle The Cat (1980)
The copy we have on the shelf is signed by the author and was presented to my partner in 1981 when she was at school, as a prize for "perfect spelling" (as it says in the inside front) :-)

Book
JP Bean - Singing From The Floor (2014)
Just read a report on Facebook saying that author J.P. Bean has passed away. What sad news.

This book is a fine, fine legacy to leave behind. RIP.

Helen Weller - British Hit Singles 11th Edition (1997)
Agreed. There were also some separate "hit albums" books before they merged them.

Book
Yann Martel - Life Of Pi (2003)
I've started reading this about three times and still not finished it...! Was quite enjoying it on each occasion but got distracted by other books and, well, you know the rest...

David Roberts - British Hit Singles 16th Edition (2003)
Tag 'em! But yeah, a list would work also :-)

Book
Michael Heatley - John Peel (2004)
A frankly average biography which was all too obviously rushed out to capitalise on the great man's death as soon as possible.

Skip it and read Margrave Of The Marshes instead.

Book
Dorothea Desforges - Bands, Booze And Ballrooms (2001)
A nostalgic look back at the dance band era and dancehalls of Hull and East Yorkshire.

A really interesting read - available for pennies on the Amazon link if anyone fancies it.

Book
JP Bean - Singing From The Floor (2014)
Excellent book. The foreword is by Richard Hawley. The front cover shows the late Louis Killen in full flow.

Book
Luke Rhinehart - The Dice Man (1994)
The "this book can still change your life", I'm sure isn't a subtitle, it's just a bit of marketing guff isn't it? Fabulous book this :-)

Book
Fenton Bresler - Who Killed John Lennon? (1989)
Ian Hart played Lennon (rather well I thought) in the film Backbeat, of course.

I meant to add I got a free badge with mine. It's on Memorabilia World - I'll copy the scan here later.

Yeah I think that's right. The kids have some other ones kicking around too.

Johnny Pat - Aces High (2015)
The first memoir by Johnny Pat (aka John Paterson) of The Aces.

Book
Richard Balls - Be Stiff (2014)
My copy is signed by the author inside.

I know this had several different colour schemes (in true Stiff style) - there's a grey/black one on Amazon, I have the red one (shown here), I think there is also blue and maybe green?

Be great to see them all scanned together here (as they're all variations on the same edition) - be a great looking page once we have 'em.

Spike Milligan - Adolf Hitler (1981)
I also agree - "Books" is just "Records" really...Would be good to have an official consensus though.

Book
Various Authors - By The Tide Of Humber (1971)
Scans are from a library book unfortunately, hence the stickers, but as this one's reasonably hard to get hold of I thought I'd better add it here before it goes back.

Book
C. J. J. Berry - First Steps In Winemaking (1981)
Good question. The quick answer is it was an entirely random pick off the shelf. However the funny thing is I haven't even read it - I bought it quite recently in the local chazza when I was toying with the idea of making my own wine, which I haven't pursued as yet, and I thought it might be an interesting read. I was in one of those funny moods I think :-)

It's quite quaint really - even though it's an 80s edition, it still looks like it's stepped straight out of the 60s...

I'd never heard of it before - I assume given the claimed sales figures it must be well known in winemaking circles...

I've plenty more random oddities where that came from!

Book
Hanif Kureishi - Love In A Blue Time (1998)
Good question - why didn't I think of that? Yes, there is - it matches the ISBN on the sticker, i.e. the one I've entered here. Presumably then, they must have naffed up the back cover!

Book
Hanif Kureishi - Love In A Blue Time (1998)
The barcode and ISBN on my copy (see scans) is actually a sticker over the top of the original printed ISBN and barcode. The barcode is different - I can only see the last digit of the ISBN and that looks different too. Could they have printed a batch of books with the wrong codes on the back?
