I seem to have become an unintentional collector over recent years. I love 45s in particular for the music in the grooves and also the fascinating artefacts they can be. The quirkier the better...

I started to buy LPs and 45s in the early-to-mid 1970s - and kept them - but took a bit of a sabbatical from record-buying for many years.

Since my interest was rekindled, my buying habits and motivations have changed. I'll still buy anything that tickles my fancy for musical reasons, but if the price is right, I'll also buy what's not already on here just to add it.

I've come to rediscover and appreciate more a couple of sometimes-overlooked formats in recent years - 78s and 10" LPs .

Scratchy45 28th Jun 2017		Book Various Authors - Rock Dreams	The Rolling Stones can't have been too miffed about their depiction, as Guy Peellaert did the cover art for 1974's "It's Only Rock And Roll". The rather infamous sleeve (in uncensored form) for David Bowie's Diamond Dogs is also his.
Scratchy45 21st Dec 2015		Book Fred Vargas - The Chalk Circle Man	Review It's crime fiction, Jim - but not as we know it: Fred Vargas is a marmite author whose quirky approach may either delight or infuriate. For quite a while I was put off myself not by the genre but by the author's name, not realising that Fred Vargas is female , a very learned academic in real life, and a bit bonkers sometimes - in the best possible way. This is the first novel in the Inspector Adamsberg series, introducing her anti-detective, his colleagues and other recurring characters. Despite this it was not the first of the series to be translated into and published in English - here by Siân Reynolds. 3 people found this review helpful. ✔︎ Helpful Review?
Scratchy45 14th Nov 2015		Book John Cooper Clarke - Directory 1979	This collection of JCC's performance poems was originally issued in 1979, then reprinted with a slightly amended cover for inclusion as part of the package for early copies of the LP "Snap Crackle and Bop".
Scratchy45 10th Nov 2015		Book Terrance Dicks - Doctor Who And An Unearthly Child	The ISBN (originally 10 digits, then expanded to 13 digits) ends with a check digit - which has nothing whatsoever to do with the edition but is calculated using the preceding digits. Randomly googled explanation here I became very familiar with the 10-digit ISBN and its uses and misuses during a dozen or so years working firstly in bibliographic information and then selling books.I'll gladly post a general explanation of the elements of an ISBN if anyone should want it - or if it's needed given the existence of links like the one above. Nowadays there may be a sequence of numbers on the the inside page of a book where bibliographic and copyright information is recorded. This identifies the reprint number for that book.
