this curtis mmpb from 1969-70 undated, entered as 1970 (may eventually require emendation)
publication date of this curtis p/b is^W was incorrect: it must have been 1969-1970, as that is when the first part of this p/b series of ~95 sf&f titles was published by the modern literary editions publishing co. (one title seemingly "leaking into" 1974 and one into 1975), with publisher code "123-".
after mlep'd picking up the merkin mmpb rights to a number of books from other publishers, it seems as though an agent, possibly acting for doubleday, arranged for modern literary editions publishing to acquire the rights/a licence to the rights to approximately one hundred mostly sf titles doubleday had not placed with any merkin publisher of mass-market paperbacks (and not all of which doubleday had got around to publishing in their hardcover line) and were perhaps approaching the ends of the licences to the english-language volume rights that doubleday held to these books - mostly, but not entirely, sf novels.
this rough century of titles was published under the curtis books imprint, mostly 1969-70, some first half 1971; odd further titles 1972-5; and then - apparently - modern literary editions lost any and all further interest in the science fiction publishing category.
