"richard kirk" was a collaborative pseudonym, in effect a house name for transworld publishers' sf & f list editor, providing additional income for friends capable of writing generally unambitious, publishable sub-burroughsian pastiches or near-pastiches at a time when category fiction editors' pay in the uk was often low, and "their" authorrs needed to write and sell from two to four novels a year to make a reasonable living.
