ppint. 11th Oct 2021		first in this annual best science fiction stories of the year series originated by publishers e. p. dutton the series ran from 1972 (of stories originally published in 1971) changing editor to gardner dozois, q.v. in 1977 with the sixth collection (of stories originally published in 1976-1977), through 1981 (of stories originally published in 1979-1980) #1: "best science fiction stories of the year" (1972), (this anthology) #2: "second series" (1973), q.v. #3: "third series" (1974), q.v. #4: "fourth series" (1975), q.v. #5: "fifth series" (1976), q.v. #6: "sixth series" (1977), q.v. #7: "seventh series" (1978), q.v. #8: "eighth series" (1979), q.v. #9: "ninth series" (1980), q.v. #10: "tenth series" (1981), q.v. gardner dozois re-started the series - or started up a new series - originated by bluejay books in 1984: this series ran through 2018, changing publishers to the parent, st. martins press, after the third annual collection (1986), with the collapse of bluejay books. from st. martins press's taking over of the series, a uk edition was published by robinson publishing under their mammoth books imprint (or possibly in the robinson's books mammoth books series), retitled: "best new sf" (uk 1987) (of the "... fourth annual collection" (us 1987), through "best new sf 7" (uk 1993) (of the "... tenth annual collection" (us 1993), qq.v.)
