ppint. 28th Nov 2022		omnibus of three unrelated novels by bob: ''orbitsville'' (1975), q.v. #1 in the orbitsville trilogy ''a wreath of stars'' (1976), q.v. ''the ragged astronauts'' (1986), q.v. #1 in the land/overland trilogy though the gollancz gateway imprint was created to publish omnibi° of (almost always three°°) science fiction (sometimes fantasy) novels by one author, i'm loath to create the new bookcat cataloguing phenomenon of ''the gollancz gateway triple'' being listed ''here'' only under their separate titles, as separate bookcat "items", linked to their other individual companions-in-binding only in comment: the bookcat phenomenon of listing the two halves of ''ace doubles'' separately in this way, and linking them in comment, was effectively forced upon me as a result of my finding so many instances of just one title from each of many ace doubles having been created as entire and complete bookcat items prior to summer 2012 (with more being added similarly after that), and it being indicated to me by the semi-divine that there was *no chance* of correcting every one of these - - presumédly each to a collection of two novels/novellas/novelettes (if both halves were by the same author) or, (if the two halves were by different authors) each to an anthology, edited by "anonymous" - - both because of the mess that would result, with many also-separately published short novels & collections becoming parts of each new bookcat ''double'' item, together with thengreat inflation of the number of essentially unsearchable books it would create under ''various'' or ''anonymous'', - and because of the enormous volume of work this would create for the semi-divine. . . the gollancz gateway imprint seems to've lasted about one and a half years, from 7/2013 to 3/2015, which doesn't strike yr hmbl srppnt. as anywhere near long enough to have established ''the gollancz gateway triple'' as a publishing phenomenon on the same level as ''the ace double''. its nearest comparison would perhaps be sidgwick & jackson's ''sf specials'' series, which were mostly ad-hoc omnibus bind-ups of unbound signatures of overstocks of previously published sidgwick & jackson h/cvr editions, not the newly/freshly put-together and purpose-printed trade paperbacks of the ''gollancz gateway'' imprint, and the s&j sf specials were not created as their own imprint. - but yr hmbl srppnt. is not numbered amongst the semi-divine, who may see things - and decide - differently. ° - my apologies; ''omnibus'' in origin means ''to, for, by, with, or from all'', and has no proper plural form in english °° - very occasionally only two, and on one occasion just the one - if you call it a novel(!)



ppint. 28th Nov 2022		hachette uk orion publishing group gollancz gateway imprint tp/b first edition thus this gollancz gateway omnibus is essentially untitled per se, but might be understood to share bob’s name cover art: almost none, typographical in black, greyscale and magentascale on ''gollancz yellow'' field, with a large-ish isoscelene triangular full-colour view of art by guy warley cover price £18.99 536pp. (check) including titles, indica etc, end pp.
