WPLives 23rd Jul 2021		Fascinating story of the California and Nevada Railroad, a narrow gauge railroad that began in Oakland, CA in 1881 with the hope of crossing the Sierra Nevada Mountains to reach Candelaria, NV (and thence, via the Carson and Colorado, link up with the Denver & Rio Grande). It made it through Berkeley, but ended just east of there, at Orinda. This book details the trials and tribulations that beset the promoters -- principally John W. "Denver" Smith and Joseph Stickney Emery -- as they fought to construct and run the line. Illustrated throughout with black and white photos. With list of employees, partial locomotive and equipment rosters, list of fares, list of property grantees, and decorative end papers showing system map. 65 pages with index.
