mandarin paperbacks, an imprint of the octopus publishing group

abp sold itself off, and the general publishing parts (methuen, etc.) were in turn sold onto reed international, which had absorbed ipc, and renamed the parts of hamlyn books they kept, the octopus publishing group. as a minor part of the reorganisation, methuen paperbacks was renamed mandarin books, an imprint of the said octopus. after a while they brought in max eilenberg (kicking elsbeth lindner sideways, expecting her to fail with her semi-independent imprint, the punningly-named lime tree books) - and he broke the agreement with yr hmbl srppnt. . . the end, essentially, of the methuen/magnum/methuen/mandarin sf list.

ppint. 24th Jul 2018		reference copy provided by courtesy of tony at the old pier bookshop, morecambe seafront (yr hmbl srppnt.'s almost certainly got a copy on "the boasting shelf", but cannot see it atm - too much stuff in the way) - and certainly can't reach it without major upheaval. . .)



ppint. 24th Jul 2018		sidgwick & jackson hardcover was actually published 25/1/1979, but was copyrighted 1978. mandarin production took the copyright date as the publication date, hence the misinformation in the indica.
