from #25 the assistance of ghost-writers was sometimes resorted to.
from sometime in the late seventies/very early eighties, richard sapir left the writing partnership,
warren murphy and/or ghost-writers (including molly cochran, his wife), continued to write the series.
richard sapir rejoined the writing partnership/team in the eighties, continuing until his death in 1987.
novels #1 through #58 were first published in mmpb by pinnacle books, #58 apparently in 12/1984;
novels #59 through #94 were first published in mmpb by new american library as signet books from 11/1984 through 10/1993;
novels #95 through #145 were first published in mmpb by worldwide library as gold eagle books from 4/1994 through 10/2006.
iiuc, tor books then continued 5/2007 through 10/2008, but were obliged for legal reasons to publish them as the new destroyer series
warren murphy died in 2015, but at least three novels in the series have appeared since then.
the manuscript - typescript - of this, the first destroyer series novel, was completed 25/6/1963 according to warren murphy (quoted objectif-cinema.com/spip.php?article3436), but was not accepted by a publisher 'til 1970 and first published in 1971.
