World War 1 air combat told by the author, who was there, serving with the British Royal Flying Corps, the forerunner of the RAF. He was an aerial gunner attached to # 22 Squadron. He was an NCO, not an officer, so he manned the machine gun in the rear seat of the aircraft. The officer pilot sat in the front seat.
