gregs45s SUBS 4th Aug 2016		@Terence Archer .Good spot,although oddly it was the "Gerd" that the author spent some months aboard (still Mærsk though).An interesting book which gives an insight into the often forgotten/taken for granted world of cargo shipping,which worldwide,operates 24/7/365,supplying us with what we need and indeed,what we think we need.Mostly crewed by Filipinos,who,at the time of writing this book,seemed to be grossly under-paid.The sheer tonnage moved around the world each year is staggering,these giants seem to take it in their stride though.A few eye-openers within,for example,there's a floating mass of rubbish in the Pacific that's the size of Texas!,mainly plastic,which took them two and a bit days to sail along one edge,nowadays,there are restrictions as to what can thrown overboard,but this has only been in practice for the last ten years or so.An interesting read.
