special edition of the limited edition hardcover, in cloth-covered board slipcase, containing an additional, previously unpublished short story, "the story of little briar-rose: a scholarly study", on pp. 195-200, preceded by an introduction, "scribbling giant" by gene wolfe, dated january 1988, on pp. 179-191.

260 hand-numbered, signed by both r. a. lafferty and by gene wolfe,
ten copies of which were reserved by the publisher for presentation purposes only, 250 copies sold directly and via the trade in the printed paper dust-jacket common to this and the remaining 750 copies of the ordinary trade hardcover edition, which bears the isbns, and the retail prices of both these editions on its back, and its front flaps.
