ppint. 2nd Nov 2022		ace books mmpb first printing, post-april 1968, not yet more closely dated the first edition was the 1965 canaveral press h/cvr which included a b+w frontispiece and eleven other full-page b+w interior illustrations: four by al (alfonso) williamson and reed crandall including the frontispiece were created for the book, those by reed crandall alone and those by frank frazetta were intended for other books to be published by canaveral press. i've not compared the illustrations in this ace mmpb with those in the canaveral press h/cvr, but they are presumably the same - the numbers tally and don wollheim did not declare them new in a puff-line upon the cover of the ace books mmpb. cover art by frank frazetta (signed, credited) b+w frontispiece (signed illegibly, uncredited; but see above) b+w interior illustrations (see above) cover price 95¢ 320pp. including titles, indicia, preface (nf) henry hardy heins, introduction (nf) richard lupoff (4/1968) etc, end pp. bibliography, checklist (both nf) richard lupoff, advertising
