ppint. 16th Jul 2022		''adult reading'' - published as what was then termed ''sleaze'' by respectable merkin people & publishers, with little regard for quality of writing (or aught else), save sales. the yuk-of-gb(?-&-ni?) equivalent term through into the seventies in some newsagents was ''a top-shelf book'', which included photography magazines carrying photos female nudes, soft porn, etc; in different parts of the yuk-of-gb-&-ni chief police officers would bust some shops for carrying them if they knew a magistrate they could secure convictions from, but not others. in some places in manchester & salford - and doubtless others - it afforded police officers additional income, unofficially (but reliably enough).
