ppint. 8th Feb 2024		5/1981 - 9/1983 tor books mmpbs were published via and distributed by pinnacle books, inc. pinnacle managed to go bust in style owing tor books a considerable sum, with very little notice. thomas doherty associates shifted production etc. to st. martins press, and distribution also; hence the isbn publisher code change from (0-) 523 - pinnacle - to (0-) 812 - st. martins press. jim (james p.) baen was lured away by simon & schuster/pocket books and set up his own ''baen books'' - with thomas doherty's help, as well as good wishes - commencing publishing in 1984. (st. martins press (owned by pan macmillan/macmillan) or holtzbrinck bought tor books in 1987, later reorganizing the ownership structure so that their merkin publishing group was owned directly by holtzbrinck, rather than indirectly, via macmillan, their uk publishing group, who had in the meantime set up a uk tor imprint, which remains with them.)
