ppint. 6th Mar 2018		novella: magazine "serialization" ° as ''the laws of chance'', startling stories vol.15 #1, 3/1947 (cover story, art by rudolph belarski; three b+w illustrations by virgil finlay) ° - in merkin fiction magazine parlance, "first magazine serialization rights" did not imply a work would be split into installments and spread over two or more issues of that magazine°° - though this was often how it did appear in the magazine's°° pages, especially if the work in question was of full novel length. °° - usually the same magazine - though this was, quite famously at the time, not the case for the first magazine serialization of isaac asimov's "the gods themselves" (3, 4, 5/1972), q.v., parts #1 & 3 in two (consecutive) issues of one of ejler jakobsson's two bi-monthly main upd-published magazines, and #2 in one (intervening) issue of the other.
