universal publishing & distribution bought galaxy publishing (galaxy & if magazines, and three sleeping titles, international, worlds of fantasy, worlds of tomorrow) (and possibly also the defunct title, beyond) from robert guinn mid-1969, having previously taken over galaxy novels and folded them into their beacon books imprint; they started advertising their award books sf mmpbs in the magazines of the group, relaunched the sleeping trio, and included a reference to the sf mmpbs being galaxy novels on their covers, though this was not a new life for or relaunch of the old series, as they remained award books, retained award books system cat#s, and did not adopt, let alone change to, any "galaxy novels series" numbering.
some award books mmpbs were distributed in the uk-of-gb-and-norn-iron and probably the republic of ireland, likely also the netherlands, scandawegia and west germany, where upd owned or held licences to; these might be stickered with uk prices or be genuine uk editions, bearing covers printed with uk cover prices specifically for distribution by universal-tandem, their uk subsidiary, to the book trade as well as via newsagents wholesalers.
- most or all of these were merkin-printed as run-ons of a main merkin printing, so liable to retain merkin end pages advertising including for titles not available from universal-tandem, but have award books' cat# modified (or removed) from the covers, merkin cover price removed from the front cover, and the uk price added to the rear cover - frequently followed by a purported u.s. price, though these editions were not merkin-distributed(!) (- "publishers!").
