JPGR&B SUBS ● 22nd May 2022		I’ve recently been in touch with the author, Tom Widdicombe, who has kindly provided these comments on his 1997 book, which he is happy for me to reproduce here: I have to agree with the reviewer on your site, my book is not really about The Beatles as such. It is more a comment on the state of English society at that time. “I blame the Beatles” became something of a catchphrase, often used by people who were lamenting what they perceived to be the death throes of our once great nation. For many of us who lived through those days, the Beatles, and the changes that took place at that time, were actually a blessed relief. There can be no doubt that the Beatles and the 60s were a huge turning point in British cultural history.
