ppint. 12th Aug 2020		shows how little this ppint. knows about the detailed publishing histories of most books much outside my former specialist/editorial areas - he may also've glommed onto my battered h/cvrs of "stuka pilot" and "the red knight of germany" - not that i've any great desire to re-read either of these; the latter was an odd combination of dutiful but apparently sincere son's love for his mother, and utter indifference to most other people; whilst the former was unintentionally - i think - scary... - "i blame biggles!"



JimEss SUBS 12th Aug 2020		I couldn't find an image of the original German edition, but it looks like it was first published in 1952 not 1953, so I submitted a correction. I did spot at least two Corgi mmpk's and one on Berkley that preceded this edition, and a later one on Bantam. And who knows how many others.



ppint. 10th Aug 2020		good grief! i never thought there'd've been a p/b of "i flew for the führer" ! - i wonder if the rather tatty, extremely rare uk h/cvr yr hmbl srppnt. had in the mid-sixties was the same translation - and i also wonder where that copy ended up: i s'pose it could be on one of the shelves in my fairly late-in-life-acquired stepfather's house in robertsbridge (he tried to nick one of my all-time gems, "aircraft of the fighting powers vol.2", excusing this on the grounds he was leaving me with vols. 1 & 3 (!); if it is, i hope he read it...)
