Anna Anderson became a cause celebre in the 1950s for claiming to be Princess Anastasia, supposedly a survivor of the executed Russian Royal Family (Anderson's story was dramatized in the 1956 film, Anastasia). Anderson's story has since been debunked by historians using (among other things) DNA evidence from the Russian royal's remains.
