marta randall's original - and better - title for her novel was ''solitary people'', chiming as it does with that of the first sequel, ''dangerous games'' (1980), q.v: unfortunately, yr hmbl srppnt. was not aware of this until after the hamlyn paperbacks edition went to production.

(and yes, there should've been a third novel: but pocket books folded their entire - and successful - sf & fantasy line, timescape books, because although david hartwell had achieved what he'd been tasked with, pocket books/s&s' manglement hadn't appreciated the investment creating an sf & fantasy imprint to rival the ballantine books / del rey books imprint, from scratch - and in two years - would require...)
