| ppint. 15th Mar 2018 | shares cat#, most of the 192pp. setting (plates printed from), and cover art by jim steranko (signed) all taken from previous lancer books editions/printings, but new cover price $1.50 and magnum books name & logo replacing lancer's 192pp. including titles, indica etc. date of this magnum books mmpb is^W was wrong and should be^W^W has been deleted. this was almost certainly a 1975 publication - possibly late 1974 - after lancer books went into bankruptcy, but whilst a fast-moving entrepreneur who still knew where the plates were, and which printers & binders would print up a few tens of thousands of copies, that he could shift fast to the wholesalers he knew that'd pay immediate cash in exchange for a much deeper than normal discount off the new $1.50 cover prices... some/all? magnum / prestige / (etc.) titles distributed by ace books, inc. and - iirc - by grosset & dunlap after they bought charter communications (who'd bought ace books, but ran out of cash/credit). | |
| ppint. 12th Nov 2017 | the dates given for these lodestar/magnum/prestige editions may easily be incorrect: that previously given for this title was the date for the lancer books first edition, and during the messy bankruptcy of that publishing company, various of their published books became available under one or more of the three imprints, distributed in merkia by various wholesalers, listed in the catalogues of mainly ace books, inc.'s publications, but definitely not published by ace, nor anymerkin anything to do with ace books, inc. - nor, sometimes, with any detectable connexion to the wreck of lancer books, inc. . . this would have appeared late 1974 - 1975, most likely 1975. | |
