 before you reprove, mickdoom'67, consider both that attitudes change both with the passing of time, and in different parts of the world;

and also, even more significantly, that sex != romance.

lots of merkin mass-market paperback publishers published what was commonly referred to as sleaze, variously purpose-written for them, or rights to previously-published fiction bought in or licenced, these latter sometimes ''sexed-up'' at the publisher's demand by the original author, or by the editor they employed, sometimes not; often re-titled and re-covered more suggestively, and often - though by no means always - stated upon the front cover to be adult material, not for sale to minors (children).-

some specialized in sleaze, some built empires upon it, and some - eventually - transcended it.
