there is (or was) much discussion as to how much which story was or was not a collaboration, and which a solo composition.
this may have been due originally to statements by either or both of the authors - the collaboration apparently did not run smoothly, and adrian conan doyle was known for his temper - and may have been fuelled by john murray's later attributing only one of the two later books of six stories each into which they split this collection to both of the authors, the other to adrian conan doyle only.
