ppint. 22nd Nov 2020		white lion publishers first printing, first h/cvr edition cover (d-j) art unsigned (may be by james cawthorn, as he did at least one in the white lion editions of the tetralogy) cover (d-j) price ? 144pp? including titles, indicia etc. number in isbn field is the sbn actually on the d-j; arithmetically equivalent to an isbn10 commencing "0" i've only ever seen library and ex-library copies of this first h/cvr edition, with the d-j laminated into the library binding without the flaps: bookcatters with access to a complete copy of the d-j are very welcome to post cover price, and any sourced credit for the cover art, in comment ''here''. ppint. 11th Oct 2020		third mayflower books uk p/b printing with new cover art number in isbn10 field is the sbn; an isbn is trivially constructed, but the cover bears none such printing history states reprinted 1969, reprinted 1972 cover art by bob haberfield (unsigned, uncredited until later printing°) cover price 30p, south africa 75c, singapore $3.00, australia & new zealand 95c, canada 95c 144pp. including titles, indica etc, further reprinted with rising cover prices 1973 (4th), 1974 (5th), 1975 (6th), 1977 (7th), 1980 (8th printing) sbn on front cover changes to isbn c. 1977 - 80 (which, to be confirmed) and some variation in the typography on the front cover. one of the 1975, 77 or 1980 printings almost certainly exists in a second state, undistributed copies having had their front & back covers cut off, but not the spine, and a new whole cover with higher prices glued onto the old spine, before the resultant chimaera being trimmed by guillotine: it is thus shorter and the whole book, covers and carcass, less wide - as well as having two card spines (easy to spot, if checked-for). it is also distinctly ''unhandy'' - uncomfortable to read - as the pages turn from the inside of the original spine, about ⅛'' in from the outer spine, not where the new card cover turns from. (it may've been botched up just before the 9th printing, and bear the new cover art; i didn't note this at the time.) cover art changes with 1981 (9th printing) to richard clifton-dey, possibly with change of ownership of granada publishing group to wm. collins and name to grafton books in 1984 (10th printing), retained for 1986 (11th printing); all from same typesetting. ppint. 27th Oct 2019		undated fifth daw books printing (given date taken from "a daw books retrospective" jaffrey q.v.) near-identical with both the first printings and the thrid, and quite prob'ly with the implicit fourth printing (which may be a second canadadian printing, n.b.) save: cat# UE1838 (near-meaningless daw book collector number dropped from cover, moved into its former position is) cover price $2.25° 176pp. including titles, indica, maps etc, end pp. advertising prob'ly (almost serpennt.ly) differs ° - there prob'ly is out there a simultaneous canadadian-carcassed, merkin-printed covered, almost identical UE1838, cover price possibly not $2.25: but this has not been seen reported - yet!
