 the front cover design and publisher/imprint statement of this edition are an intriguing oddity:
all other panther books i've seen - and seen reported - of this year and of years either side bear the panther imprint name alone, and in a horizontal line-drawn oval - the statement ''a london panther'' is exceptional, and suggests this book was - possibly uniquely - intended for sale in territories where other publishers' books were already distributed bearing a ''panther'' imprint.

the sbn identifies this book as being unequivocally a publication of panther books ltd., originally hamilton & co. (stafford) ltd., and one published c. 10-12/1969 by sequential interpolation; no other publishers in the uk or in the sterling area (uk-of-gb-&-ni, (ex-)british empire and/or commonwealth, etc.) is known to've published books under a panther imprint of its own, so it seems possible that this book was expected to receive distribution in the americas - particularly north america - and/or in ''open market'' territories where it was felt likely, or at least possible, to've been confusable with another publisher's panther books.

or this may've been a precautionary modification to their normal identification made because the original work was long since out of copyright, and therefore publishable by absolutely anyone, anywhere.

detailed examination of the book may suggest which - if any - of these possibilities was actually the reason for the peculiarities...
