ppint. 11th Sep 2018		although yr hmbl srppnt.'d advised the editorial director of fiction at hamlyn paperbacks that "we" should publish pretty well all of james schmitz' sf, including all three telzey amberdon books, the u.k. p/b rights to the second and third were acquired before any negotiations over the rights to the first began - and then the egregious walter clare-contrived collapse of hamlyn paperbacks picked up so much momentum that, variously, self-preservation, and the protection of the hamlyn publishing group/ipc as a whole, took precedence in employees' minds - which, depending upon how high up they were in the hierarchy - and just about everything took precedence over the coherence of the hamlyn paperbacks sf & fantasy list. . . - so the uk p/b rights to "the universe against her" were never acquired for the hamlyn paperbacks sf list.
