ppint. 15th Aug 2018		three - debatably four - near-identical editions/printings, three sharing merkin-printed covers and hence also cover art by dean ellis cover price $1.25 and two share cat# 02502•4: refer to indica to see whether carcass of copy held is canadadian- or merkin- printed; priority uncertain, check also date given to the printing in the indica. second merkin printing 9/1973 has new cat# 22502•3 and sbn: 345-22502-3 (still bearing 125 appended, being the cover price in cents); uk p/b published as by pan/ballantine, spine bearing both ballantine (top) and pan (bottom) colophons, bears isbn 0330 23946 5 and cover prices in black on a blue square let into back cover: 50p, australia $1.50°, new zealand $1.45 not for sale in canada (°recommended but not obligatory) (so should be flagged "international" according to respected moderator's rule) (- or not so re-flagged, according to equally well-respected moderator's heartfelt plea) (the next merkin printing/edition in 1977 cuts dean ellis' art down severely, to fit into a royal blue-bordered front cover, and adds the ballantine books' del rey logo.)
ppint. 15th Aug 2018		the author's name was charles john cutcliffe wright hyne, and whilst his work was published under a number of perms & comms of this, as well as under at least one pseudonym ("weatherby chesney''), and with and without the hyphen between "cutcliffe" and "hyne" - he was only ever published under the by-line, "c. j. cutliffe-hyne", in error. in his introduction to the ballantine books' editions, lin carter gives his correct by-line, c. j. cutcliffe hyne.
