the two men controlling transworld publishers ltd. believed they needed no specialist knowledge of sf & fantasy, labouring under the impression that the lists built up by their previous specialised editors' work had been achieved by "cherry picking" authors other publishers had established - which the two of them were, of course, quite smart enough to do, themselves, without any specialised sf & f editor, or advice.
as yr hmbl srppnt. attempted to point out, this is not in fact how transworld publishers' sf & fantasy lists had been built up - and as for the second part of their self-satisfied knowledge, this proved not to be the case either.

no-one knows why they tried to jump transworld into publishing david weber's honor harrington series with this novel; yr hmbl srppnt. s'spects they had no idea that it was a later novel in an ongoing series . . .
