 according to the spiffy ace books five-digit system, cat# should've been increased by 1 from the previous printing, to 77782 (with consequent (i)sbn (0-)441-77782-1);
however this cat# had already been allocated to ''space visitor'' by mack reynolds (8/1977), q.v. (and ((0-)441-)77783(-X) to the second printing of this), possibly by mistake - and definitely outwith the rules of the ace books five-digit cat# system;

a quick manglement flail around evidently spotted 77779 as being unused, which was still unsystematic - the choice should've gone to a completely unused block of five (or even ten) adjacent cat#s commencing in a terminal ''0'' or a ''5'' (- or arguably, a partly-used block not reserved for another title's reprintings, commencing in a terminal ''2'', to follow on from the terminal ''1'' of 77781) - but it wasn't.

and, rather than follow this with 77778, counting down (- well, why not? -) from the anomalous 77779,
the next known printing was allocated 77784, with consequent isbn 0-441-77784-8, 9/1983;
but its cover is sufficiently different from all of the preceding three michael whelan-covered printings, by virtue of the art being reproduced reversed left-right, in mirror image, to definitely constitute a new bookcat item.
