Green emerged as a serious and accomplished musician. He showed a mastery of the standard blues tempos and arrangements, and while his playing and writing were derivative, they were charged with the barely controlled emotion that characterizes great blues. All of Green's works displayed creditable restraint, unlike much British blues. Arrangements were dry and spare―but McVie (who'd come over soon after ''Believe My Time Ain't Long) and Fleetwood were as solid and sympathetic a rhythm team as any trio needed. Green also played some suitably parched harmonica on ''Looking for Somebody'' which rather daringly had no guitar at all. ''I was very purist in those days'', Green recall
''and the freedom of having our own band let me do things like (Howlin' Wolf's)
'No Place To Go' and 'Looking for Somebody.' That's how I wanted the band to sound.''
Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac, as the first album was called, moved into
The New Musical Express' top fifteen albums in February, 1968, and it remained there for twenty-three weeks................
