ppint. 6th Nov 2022		yr hmbl srppnt. had next-to-nothing to do with methuen london's uk editions of ben bova's books: they sold quite well, and elsbeth lindner handled all dealings with ben's agent, barbara bova, who was by elsbeth's account a tough negotiator (as it was her job to be), who knew how far methuen could be pushed in raising their offers of advance(s) against royalties to (within) a couple of hundred pounds - just as elsbeth knew to a couple of hundred, how many copies methuen could sell of the uk p/b in the life of the licence they were negotiating over, and that h/cvr sales would be a fairly limited quantity, to the few public libraries still able to afford h/cvr sf books, and ben bova sf fans with money to spend. public libraries' budgets went on being cut, and it soon made sense to offload the publishing of the uk h/cvrs to much smaller library reprint (mostly) specialists like severn house.

(check) including titles, indica etc, end pp. advertising distinguish from near-identical mandarin imprint second printing c.1992 on same isbn which differs: cover price £4.99 (?overseas territories prices?)
