ppint. 28th May 2023		first published year is wrong and should be corrected to 1994 no edition of ''mort: a discworld big comic'' was published before the simultaneous 22/9/1994 editions. this is *not* a reissue of the text of terry's novel, ''mort'' with added illustrations: it is a *new* work. these are the first edition of ''mort: a discworld big comic'' by terry pratchett, graham higgins. ppint. 29th Aug 2022		cassell group victor gollancz imprint h/cvr 22/9/1994 first printing and simultaneous first edition sharing signatures with those of the softcover first printing dedications: terry: one more for rhianna graham: to matthew and james, who would like me to include bruce grobelaar cover art and all interior illustrations by graham higgins coloured by carol bennett, lettering by euan smith cover price £12.99 96pp. including 2 unnumbered pp. titles, indicia etc, bound (with endpapers°) in laminated board covers (° - check, but endpapers are extra to the outer pp. of the 96pp. collected signatures; and the endpapers are glued onto the inside cover boards over the folded-over edges of the laminated printed covers) cassell plc contacted graham higgins directly and commissioned him to produce this and his adaptation of ''guards! guards!'' (''guards! guards!: (did not appear subtitled ''the big comic'')'' (2000), q.v.) emphasising - their - great urgency in this, and advising him that an ongoing series of ''discworld big comics'' by himself and terry pratchett, based upon terry's original discworld novels, was to ensue. graham put off various prior commissions and professional commitments in order to produce his original artwork for the first two full-colour cartoon adaptations in time for cassell plc's planned (& announced?) publication date. unfortunately, cassell plc had not at that time let terry know of their plans, let alone obtained his (via colin smythe, his agent)'s authorisation for the project to go ahead. terry was not in the slightest bit amused, and read into it - wrongly, but in the circumstances as far as he knew them, understandably - that graham was seeking to establish a career ''upon the back of my [terry's] work''. no further ''big comics'' transpired. terry did not work with graham on adapting the text for the full-colour comic adaptation of ''guards! guards!'', which work was undertaken by stephen briggs, who was credited for this. graham understandably declined to attend any further discworld conventions or clarecraft discworld events. i do not know whether his withdrawal from attending afpmeets was, nor was not, connected in any way with this - i hope he & his son were able to keep in touch with the close afpfriends they'd made. (of his two dedicatee sons, one in particular attended afpmeets and made afpfriends of his own.) (this comment is from another edition of this book)
