ppint. 11th Nov 2019		cover prices for uk, east africa, south africa, new zealand, australia printed on back cover so should be re-flagged "international" according to respected moderator's rule - or not so re-flagged, according to equally respected moderator's heartfelt plea - even though no distribution by way of trade outside of the yuk-of-gb'n'ni, roi ever seen reported. ppint. 6th Nov 2018		neither brian stableford nor his agent, les flood (the e. j. carnell literary agency, plumstead) were aware of the existence of this edition, nor had either authorised its uk publication, when yr hmbl srppnt. was told by brian that quartet books had only published #2 & #3 in his dies irae trilogy because they'd been advised by charter communications inc. the uk rights to #1 were not available. as a result of my hunting down and buying a copy and giving it to brian, les was able to extract £500 (iirc) out of charter communications (probably owned by grosset & dunlap by then) for brian, which would've been about ¼ to ½ the normal going rate for an advance against royalties for a uk edition of an sf novel at the time, but was apparently what ace books (or possibly charter communications) inc. manglement had been selling them off at in their flailing - and failing - attempts to keep the company afloat, prior to their selling it to grosset & dunlap, inc. to the best of my knowledge, five star paperbacks/pbs limited never paid royalties upon the sales of any of the books they published beyond such initial "advance" payments, made to the merkin publishers acting as agents for the authors (usually legally, as per the contracts with the authors/the authors' agents) i do not know whether they ever provided accounting of the sales figures for any of these books to the publishers, agents or authors from whom they obtained uk (& commonwealth?) rights.
