ppint. 29th Jan 2022		hodder & stoughton paperbacks new english library imprint uk p/b first printing, first uk edition (possibly first edition°) cover art by chris achilleos (signed with his monogram, and appears to be dated 1997(!), probably 1991; but the cover art is credited wrongly to louis harrison in the indica) b+w interior illustrations by louis harrison (signed) cover price £4.99, $11.95 australia rrp 272pp. including 6pp. titles, indica etc, 20 unpaginated end pp: 15pp. b+w art portfolio, 1p. advice to look out for sequel, coming soon, 3 blank pp. ° - that the penguin group usa/roc were able to give the title of the sequel, and had at least the first six pages thereof set up in type, to print the excerpt in the end of their mmpb, suggests that they, and not hodder & stoughton, originated these novels. further, the indica publishing history statement crediting the cover art of this uk p/b to louis harrison is definitely incorrect - but *was* true of the 1993 penguin group usa/roc mmpb... - however, the cat# buried in the isbn of the h+s/nel uk p/b *does* fit 1992 by interpolation.. - your guess...



ppint. 29th Jan 2022		the penguin group usa roc imprint mmpb first printing, possibly first edition (??°) dedication: for marlys davis and cory mills; for all the gang in kindred spirits; for jerry miller; for bobby behind the bar; and for diana, who counted forty-six shooting stars'' cover art by louis harrison (signed harrison) b+w interior illustrations by louis harrison, signed louis harrison cover price (canada $5.99) u.s. $4.99 320pp. including 8 pp..titles, indica etc, end pp: 9pp. b+w portfolio, first six pp. (unpaginated) of #2, ''hands of a dragon'', ''due in 1994'', ending abrupt ° - the 1992 year date given in the new english library uk p/b edition looks perhaps a little suspect; but even if it's correct, it's quite possible that penguin group usa/roc originated these three novels, and just didn't have a ''slot'' available in which to publish their mmpb of the first book before hodder & stoughton got their uk p/b into print. (this comment is from another edition of this book)
