| | serialised in astounding vol.49 #1, #2, #3; 3, 4, 5/1952, q.v.;
part one very possibly the cover story for the issue (my identification - ppint.), each part with four (part one) or five (parts two & three) b+w illustrations, all fifteen works by "pawelka"
and in astounding bre vol.viii #8, #9, #10; 8, 9, 10/1952, q.v.
the bre (british reprint edition) published by atlas publishing and distribution co. ltd.
its contents were re-set, with repainted covers, and all b+w illustration cut.
it was distributed throughout much - most? - of the british empire (slowly metamorphosing into the british commonwealth from late 1939 through the forties, fifties and well into 1963).
it was not an exact match for the merkin original issues, issues' tables of contents being for most of its life more or less severely cut, stories sometimes swapped between issues, and much of the original merkin astounding magazine's contents did not see publication in the bre.
by the sixties, atlas were reprinting the corresponding street & smith's, later condé nast's, merkin original issues content whole.
august 1963 (merkin april) saw the last astounding/analog bre, by-then publishers condé nast choosing not to renew atlas' uk & british empire/commonwealth licence, but to distribute their original edition worldwide.
the astounding bre was published after its closest-corresponding original, often several months later. (this comment is from another edition of this book) |
