declared to be a magnum science fiction original, which is extremely misleading; in the collapse of lancer books, a number of lancer books titles were re-issued as magnum books, lodestone books, prestige books and possibly others, some of these by lancer, some by others apparently having naught in common with lancer.
this novel was a 1973 lancer book with essentially the same cover design, printing set-up, etc. and so could only be claimed as an original if being published by lancer books, inc. itself, or by a legitimate successor company.
