ppint. 9th Mar 2021		almost - but not quite - all of methuen/abp group's magnum books general commercial uk p/b imprint bear the (i)sbn publisher prefix no., (0)417- (0)413- is a general methuen prefix no. that was used on methuen/abp group's general commercial paperbacks (and the eyre-methuen commercial h/cvr imprint, inter alia) prior to the decision to set up magnum books as a semi-independent organisation. it was used on some of the first books scheduled before the semi-separation of magnum books was effected, and upon magnum books reprintings of books previously published in various abp group publishers editions. abp - associated british publishers - was a more-or-less accidental british mini-conglomerate publishing group that arose from eyre & spottiswoode (the publishers granted/inheriting the english monopoly upon publishing the bible by queen elizabeth I, just as william collins was granted the monopoly in scotland by king james VI ?) 's amalgamation with (/purchase by) methuen & company, founded relatively recently in 1889 by algernon methuen, and subsequent amalgamations, in a loosely-centrally controlled organisation where each publishing house reported financially to the central board, but retained day-to-day operational independence so long as operating within their centrally-set budgets...
