The Beatles A Private View is a celebration of Robert Freeman's association with the Beatles in the early years of their success, from 1963 to 1966. He travelled with them, as photographer and friend, in England, Sweden, France, America, Austria and the Bahamas. His photographs provide an intimate record of their evolution from a young Liverpool band playing seaside cinemas to international stars whose music dominated the American charts and the airwaves worldwide.

This is the first large-format, high quality photographic book on the Beatles which presents for the first time in one volume Robert Freeman's photographs of the band in all aspects of their life - at home, backstage, onstage, in the recording studio, on tour and on their film locations. Many of the photographs - colour, black-and-white and sepia, have never been published before and these combine with Freeman's famous portraits of John, Paul, George and Ringo to make this book a unique collector's item.

Robert Freeman is the photographer most closely associated with the Beatles. He was responsible for the design and and photography of five of their album covers from the famous With The Beatles image to Rubber Soul, and of John Lennon's two best-selling books - In His Own Write and A Spaniard In The Works. Freeman filmed the title sequences for A Hard Day's Night & Help! in addition to designing the albums and posters. His photographs, which attract high prices at fine art galleries, record some historic moments in the Beatles' career and his portraits of them as individuals capture the humour, originality and innocence which characterised their rise to fame in the early sixties.

JPGR&B SUBS 12th Jan 2020		Despite what is said in the dust jacket that "Many of the photographs - colour, black-and-white and sepia, have never been published before", in fact many had been published before, albeit in a smaller format, in Robert Freeman's book Yesterday: Photographs Of The Beatles, published by Weidenfeld & Nicolson in 1983.
