ppint. 5th Oct 2020		thomas bouregy & co. airmont books small format trade p/b first printing, first p/b edition cover art unsigned, uncredited (sfaik as-yet unattributed) cover price 35¢ 128pp. including titles, indicia etc. title is as given on front cover & upon spine; the title page gives it as ''the tower of zanid'', but abbreviated title used so that this and other editions already entered sort together. four known near-identical reprintings: second airmont books trade p/b 12/1972 printing differs: cover price 60¢ printer's date ''12/72'' on p.128 third airmont books trade p/b printing 5/1973 differs: cover price 60¢ printer's date on p.128 fourth airmont books trade p/b 1/1976 printing differs: cover price 95¢ printer's date 1--76 on p.128 fifth airmont books trade p/b undated (1979-mid eighties?) printing differs: cover price $1.50 no printer's date on p. 128 probably not a current edition from/by 2/1983, when the ace books omnibus of ''the virgin of zesh'' & ''the tower of zanid'' was published, q.v. - but who knows? second and subsequent printings: the first printing's 35¢ cover price is overprinted with new price reversed-out on a black disc over the 35¢, or has been printed from plates where this has first been done (save for the fifth, where a black rectangle is used). exceptionally, airmont books continued reprinting their edition throughout the life of the macfadden books 1972 edition; it is highly unlikely that two publishers' north american mmpb editions were simultaneously legally licensed, but not impossible that their small format trade p/b coexisted with a similarly-sized mmpb.

ppint. 21st Apr 2018		macfadden books mmpb near-identical simultaneous first printings, not first p/b edition cover art unsigned, uncredited, so far unattributed cover price 75¢ 160pp. including titles, indicia etc. number-string on spine 532-00467-075 is not an sbn nor isbn; last three digits = cover price in cents (this number-string - with - or without - the cover-price digits - may be this book's abn) refer to indicia to see if carcass of copy held was canadadian- or merkin- printed. no priority established nor liable to be, both stating a macfadden book ..... 1972 exceptionally, airmont books seem to've continued reprinting their small format trade p/b edition through the life of this macfadden books edition; it is unlikely that two north american mmpb editions were legally licensed simultaneously, though not quite impossible.
