ppint. 19th Feb 2021		first ballantine books ltd. p/b printing, first uk edition cover art by stephen miller (unsigned, uncredited; attributed online) in uniform cover design cover price 30p, south africa 75c, australia 95c, new zealand 95c 256pp. including titles, indica etc, end pp. advertising number in isbn10 field is the sbn actually given on the indica page cover still bears the merkin cat# in error: this was used neither by ballantine books ltd.°, nor by pan books who took over distributing - some - of the ballantine books mmpbs imported and distributed by ballantine books ltd. after the uk subsidiary closed down, in addition to the titles actually published in uk p/b editions, as well as going on to publish uk p/b editions of some ballantine books, inc. titles as pan/ballantine books. ° - ballantine books ltd. employees in the london offices at 8 king street, london were easily bright enough to ''translate'' orders sent to them quoting merkin cat#s so long as they were for books they actually published and/or distributed in the uk, but they were not quoted on the order forms, nor later in pan books' catalogues after ballantine books ltd. was closed down.
