ppint. 27th Mar 2019		first published year date is^W was wrong and should^W has been corrected. first published in hardcover by edgar rice burroughs, inc. 15/2/1934. #1 in the carson napier / carson of venus series: #1: "pirates of venus" (1934) (this novel) #2: "lost on venus" (1935), q.v. #3: "carson of venus" (1939), q.v. #4: "escape on venus" (1946), q.v. #5: "the wizard of venus" (1964), q.v.



ppint. 3rd Apr 2019		new english library four square books imprint p/b second printing from same plates as 1963 first. cover art by roy carnon retained from first printing, heavily cropped. cover price 3'6 160pp. including titles, indica etc, end p. advertising check indica publishing history for presence/absence of a line stating third printing/reprinted 1965 identifying the near-identical next printing. next known uk p/b printing after that is in 8/1972, from same plates by new english library bears new art, apparently also by roy carnon (check: this may be a misunderstanding - the art on the p/b covers is unsigned, and may not be credited): it's a side view of a woman kneeling, set against a white ground, cover price, etc. this reprinted 3/1973 (this comment is from another edition of this book)
