Well I didn't, Janie but I must admit I did have the chance to in 1983 but that's a whole other story. I'll search out John Robb's book though, I'm going to Melbourne soon to buy records and the like so I'll keep an eye out for it. Thanks.

Who didn't? On the English side of the affair I can recommend John Robb's Punk Rock.

Yeah, Janie I bought Rock 'n' Roll Babylon by Gary Herman which was touted to be a follow on through the grunge years but it really didn't match this at all and was a pallid tale in comparison but I suppose times had changed by then. Simon Reynolds "Rip It Up and Start Again" is even worse and I still haven't managed to finish that one off. It's mainly due to the fact that Legs McNeil was really an integral part of the New York punk scene and not just someone who happened to be there jotting stuff down or a budding journalist type. That really is the difference in this one you can smell the dope, feel the grime and believe the shit people say because next quote is usually a completely different take on the same incident. Now just who did suck Iggy's cock?

Hi Lee, yes, this is fantastic, and it spawned a lot of similar books on either different genres or countries. Thanks to your bringing this up I now changed mine (was early days for this site) to current standards (Co-authors and International due to the endless list of Penguin companies). And that "auto-link" function is really nice, especially with translations picking up English originals (if entered, of course....)

Janie (and any MODS passing by), I have the 10th anniversary edition with the same cover but different back, barcode, ISBN, and an added afterword. Should I add it as a different book? I used to have a version with a yellow cover with the Ramones (I think) on the cover. Once I had this version but lent out like I did with the yellow cover copy but never returned but that didn't surprise me. Different or the same is the question and the other question is why can't we link in this section or DVDs. I'll add mine as a different version as per the guidelines though. Ha, I'll make my own hyperlink to this copy in a comment. Solved my own problem while writing about it who says men can't multitask.

 Rated 10/10
The best book I've ever read about Rock 'N' Roll and probably also the most entertaining book I've ever read. If you have the slightest interest in The Stooges, Iggy Pop, Lou Reed, New York Dolls, Ramones, CBGB's, The Bowery, Johnny Thunders, Stiv Bators, and the like this book is for you. The story is a an oral chronology of how it all happened told in snippets from all the key players and is brilliantly pieced together by Legs McNeil And Gillian McCain.

Truth, lies, sex, dope, triumphs and disasters, a real peak inside the underbelly of rock told by those who were there. A cracking read.

Ha, ha I see this part of the site links things automatically. Pretty nifty, well done computer geeks.
