ppint. 25th May 2022		''owen dudley'' is one of the pseudonyms used by dudley dean mcgaughey (sometimes given as mcgaughy) on his crime novels; his most commonly-used by-line was ''dean owen'', and he wrote ''sleaze'' novels for beacon books (upd) which were published as by ''dean mccoy''. other pseudonyms on his crime novels include ''hodge evans'', and he wrote a *lot* of westerns: at least 37 that were published under his main pseudonym, ''dean owen'', and at least 14 as by ''dudley dean''. dudley dean mcgaughey used at least half a dozen other pseudonyms, not including novels and shorter work published under house names, and at least once - in good faith - illegally through no deliberate fault of anyone's, as by brian wynne - ''gunslick territory'' (½ ace double 1973), q.v. which occurred because donald wollheim was under the impression that the ''jeremy six'' books were a ''house series'' owned by ace books, and commissioned the new short novel, when in fact the series was owned by the author, brian garfield - as was the ''brian wynne'' pseudonym.° (° - see mysteryfile.com/DOwen/bibliography.html)
