based closely upon the autobiographical account of his life, particularly during the 1775-83 USA revolution/war of independence, by roger lamb of the ninth foot regiment (later the royal norfolk regt.): cf. graves' basing upon suetonius' account of his two-novel fictionalisation of the life and times of emperor claudius in I, Claudius & Claudius the God and his wife, Messalina.
